origami bows

Long time no talk friends! I'm so sorry I've been off the wagon the last couple of weeks! I have been so busy with work and preparing for my big craft fair next month.

I wanted to share how to make the most adorable origami bows! I have been making them non-stop for booth decoration. They are easy to make and can be used to decorate gifts and many other things. I have seen many different tutorials on how to make these bows and the video below is BY FAR the easiest to follow! Enjoy!

japanese 3d deco nails

My wonderfully talented friend Mari did my nails over the weekend and I just about died. It was serendipitous really because I was ready to pay $50 - $75 dollars at a salon to get the exact same manicure that she gave me on her own living room floor. Let me explain the process:

1. First off, she cleaned my hands with pure acetone and a cotton ball.
2. Mari broke out the french tip nail guides and stuck them to each on my finger nails.
3. Two coats of the white polish above the nail guides.
4. After the nails dried came two coats of the silver sparkle nail polish.
5. After the silver polish dried, she took out her 3D rhinestone bows and acrylic kit
6. With tweezers, Mari placed one bow on my ring finger and while keeping it still she applied the acrylic to its undersides.
7. After waiting about 5 minutes for the acrylic to dry, she applied a coat of clear gel polish to all of my nails.
8. I placed my hands under her LED lamp for 60 seconds.
9. She applied another coat of gel polish to my nails and I placed my hands back under the lamp for another 60 seconds.
10. Mari then wiped my nails down with rubbing alcohol and asked me to wash my hands.

TA-DA!

I am so pleased with the results! I have been doing dishes and everything like normal and my nails look freshly done. Suffice to say, I have a new hobby!

merry and bright

I was reorganizing my closet a couple of days ago and I realised something: I have SO MUCH dark clothing. I'm serious. When I was finished I said to myself "Wow, am I depressed"? I think I am just more inclined to buy dark clothing because it won't get dirty as fast but everyone needs some lights in their wardrobe! Here are some lighter looks I am adoring!

october favorites

October is over! Whaa what! I am rather glad to be getting on to November! Here are some of my October favorites:

1. Anthropologie intimates. *sigh*. So beautiful. So expensive.
4. Mini clocks! I love "mini" things. So cute. I would keep this on the shelf above my bed if I had one.
5. Uber-cute mug! These also come in moustache and piggy.
6. This vintage bag is so rad! I love it!
7. This entire outfit. Just sheer perfection. This is a look that is also easily replicated which makes me very happy :)
8. Oh shoot! I have been looking everywhere for this freaking shirt for I don't even know how long! Where is it!?
9. Japanese Kitty Clips! These little guys are adorable and make paper work a little fun.

closet favorites / a name change

Hello friends! I have a two things I want to touch on and fashion first so here we go!

Here are some of my favorites that are currently in my closet!

1. J.Crew Vintage Knit blue and white top. I actually got this top from my best friend because he didn't want it anymore. Score!

2. Polka-dot, Peter Pan collar, Forever 21 blouse. I bought this blouse a couple of years ago and I am surprised that it is still in good condition. I cannot remember the exact price but it was definitely less than $20.

3. Chambray long-sleeve shirt from Old Navy. I bought this shirt about 2 months ago and I wear it all the time! It's the perfect shirt for a casual day out but it is so easily dressed up with a pair of dark skinny jeans and accessories for night. It was about $30.

4. Jones New York short-sleeved top from Macy's. I actually bought this top from Macy's with a gift card I got for my birthday. So again...score! I wear the shhhhhhhhoot out of this time. I'm wearing it constantly. I got it like 2 or 3 years ago and I pray that it will live forever.

And on another note... I changed the name of my blog!! Yeah..... "Ahoy My Love" (the previous name of this blog) was a little difficult to work with because, fun fact, the phrase "Ahoy My Love" is actually a semi-popular one (kinda sorta not really). It was really hard for me to get an email address and I wanted to open a shop and sell my products at fairs but apparently the phrase "Ahoy My Love" is one that is taken almost everywhere. Ergo, Introducing "Morning Waffle"! I chose the name because I love waffles in the morning! (and noon, and night and 2 am... which is technically the morning so HEY!) Is that name unique enough???? You can now email me at: morningwaffleblog@gmail.com

on instagram

Hello friends! I am freaking out that we are already at the tail-end of October! I'm getting a bit jealous of some of my friends that are from the mainland and posting beautiful pictures of the colorful Autumn season. I really shouldn't complain though, because Hawaii is always beautiful!

Here are some of my favorites from my Instagram! You are more than welcome to follow me here!

matryoshka crochet + embroidery

Earlier this month I talked about how I am selling some of my crocheted products at a Christmas craft fair this December. This is just one of the dolls I'll be selling. I am also selling beanies, large and small bows, kitty I-phone and Mac cozies, Hayao Miyazaki plushies and a few other items. I really have to get back to crocheting because I have been kind of slacking these past few weeks. I'm also thinking about opening an Etsy shop!

kate spade

Hello friends! My week has been pretty boring. It has been a little over a week since my oral surgery and I can finally eat solid foods! Huzzah! But while I was on bedrest I made an impulse Kate Spade online purchase.

I have had the Kate Spade Cobble Hill Leslie Satchel for about a year now. I bought it used on Ebay because there is no way I'd be able to afford the bag new. The bag is in great condition and I purchased it for more than 50% less lightly used on Ebay. The retail price of the bag is about $400.

However, I have been keeping my eye on the Kate Spade necklace shown above for some time. It is $58 and gorgeous. It's very simple and delicate. I have been looking for a gold disc necklace ever since I started watching 30 Rock (Liz Lemon wears one and rocks it). There is also a cute turn-of-phrase on it which says "Good as Gold". I ordered it online (obviously) and it was delivered to me in 2 days!

What do you think of Kate Spade?

fashion favorites

So yesterday I got my hair dyed, ate some lunch with my mom and then...oh yeah, had some emergency oral surgery. My gums were a bit swollen the other day and I set up a dentist appointment to have it checked out. When I got to the dentist the receptionist was incredibly rude and gave me a paper cut! And the dentist was like "You have a very large infection and it's serious. There is nothing I can do". He told the rude-paper-cutting receptionist to give me the number of a gum specialist.

When I got to the specialist he was all "Wow. This is bad. You need to get surgery done today. You could die if the bacteria in your gums oozes out". So I rush to the surgeon and he was all "We're gonna hook you up to an IV and put you to sleep while we do the surgery. Do you have any questions"? Im like "mmmmhmmmahhh" because he had already put all of the dentist-mouth-opening-apparatuses in my mouth so I couldn't say anything. So I'm bedridden for the next few days BUT I have some awesome pain meds so woo hoo!

Anywhoosles, here are some of my fashion favorites!!! I love the peter pan collars and button ups. The best place to find adorable tops like these are (sometimes) at Forever 21 but there is a downside to that. The clothes from Forever 21 are cheap but the fall apart quickly. Oxford shoes can go with almost anything and are my favorite types of shoes. You can find them at Steve Madden, Aldo, again (sometimes) Forever 21.

What is your favorite style of shoe?

gentle and kind

How are you doing friends? I have really been trying to take this quote to heart. When someone is being less than kind and gentle toward you it is so easy to be harsh back. It takes an amount of grit and backbone to be compassionate and tender. There will always be someone in you do not get along with. Whether that be someone at work or school or someone who is in your life for another reason. Anger brings about anger.

"A soft answer will turns away wrath but a harsh word stirs up anger."- Proverbs 15:1.

this month...

Oh shoot! It's October! Halloween is the best holiday next to Christmas for me. I think I might be Snow White or Little Red Riding Hood for Halloween. I can't decide. Not that it really matters, I'm probably just going to end up going to a friends house to watch scary movies but what am I going to wear when I watch those movies with my one other friend??? Decisions decisions...

This month I am looking forward to:
1. Halloween
That's it... that's all that's going on for me this month. That and a dentist appointment...

september favorites

September has been great! It was truly an amazing month and I thank God for that! Here are my September favorites:

1. More home inspiration!
2. I am terrified of balloons. Honestly, if someone gave me a balloon for my birthday I would take the balloon and be like "Thanks!" *lets go of the balloon*. However, this DIY balloon project is too cool to pass up.
3. This DIY ring tutorial is so easy and cute. All you need is wire, pliers and a bead of your choice.
4. I hate Mondays.
5. Ok, I am in love with this French graphic designer and I am getting this French desk planner for 2014. No question.
6. I am a knitting and crocheting fiend. You can find me at 3 in the morning sometimes and my eyes are red and my Diet Coke is half water and I'm knitting/crocheting angrily (because I need to finish a project before I go to bed. I NEED TO). Here is a beautiful dish towel knitting pattern.

alberta ferretti 2014 milan fashion week

You know how sometimes you find a song you love and you listen to it on repeat for days and days? That's exactly how I feel about Alberta Ferretti's 2014 Milan Fashion Week collection. I have been looking at it so much it might as well be my screensaver.

Every piece in this collection is a masterpiece in and of itself. The color pallette is stunning and the embroidery... Oh my heart... the embroidery. I recently bought a Cath Kidston book about how to embroider and now I'm obsessed. I have embroidery floss strewn about my bedroom and thimbles that somehow got under my bed sheets. So, one could understand that when I first saw the gorgeous embroidery on these pieces I almost cried/died.

Alberta Ferretti is very well known for her bridal gowns which i almost don't want to even talk about because once I start I can't stop.

You can view the entire Alberta Ferretti 2014 Milan Fashion Week here!

feeling 22

It was my birthday yesterday and my mom threw me a surprise party. I've always said that I would never want anyone to throw me a surprise party but my mom threw a perfect one. There were only 9 guests and it was very intimate and fun! Plus, it was Minnie Mouse themed so it was a very cute party too. Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday! It means a lot to me!
Do you like surprise parties?

long sleeves and skinny jeans

 INDIA top
Target skinny jeans
Kate Spade Cobble Hill Leslie Satchel (not shown)
Steve Madden tan oxfords (not shown)

The Hawaiian heat is blazing this year! It's definitely hotter than usual and the humidity is off the charts. The problem is that I love wearing long sleeves and jeans! I also walk 3 miles to get to work daily and it feels like I'm melting. Oh well! I still wear the clothes I love to wear and just suck it up!

I am participating in the Moanalua Vendor Fair in December! I will be selling some of my handmade products like: beanies, scarves, Hayao Miyazaki stuffed characters, etc...If you are living on Oahu or will be in the area come and stop by!
I feel like I am in a season of new beginnings and it's tough for me. I just have to try and keep trying to push through!

party nails

I love black nail polish and I usually paint a layer of glitter over it or something (I still rock those plain black nails from time to time). I wanted to share with you one of my favorite ways to wear black polish! These nails are perfect for a party!

What you will need:
1. Black nail polish
2. Thick gold glitter nail polish (I use the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure gold polish)
3. Clear top coat polish
4. Thin nail polish brush

Paint your nails black and wait for your nails to dry for about 10 minutes. Once the polish is completely dry get your gold glitter polish and thin nail polish brush. Apply a layer of gold polish on the "moon"or the bottom of the nail and with the thin nail brush, gently drag the glitter polish upward. This will create a fading effect. Once dry, apply the top coat (I usually apply one coat of the clear polish, wait for it to dry, and apply another coat). That's all! enjoy your pretty nails! -Jenny

Reviewed: MAC morange

MAC Morange! I have only heard great things about this lip color and I decided to purchase it! I love orange lippies and this is a "true" orange color, if that's even a thing. The color is very bold and bright but it manages not to look tacky.

The Morange comes in the ubiquitous black MAC lipstick tube; very sleek and simple with the rounded lid. The packaging is pretty well known and chances are you've probably seen it before.

I apply one or two coats and the color stays on for a few hours. I would highly suggest wearing a lip balm as a base for Morange. I have heard about its proclivity for drying out lips from other beauty bloggers so would definitely use a lip liner or lip balm as a base. Using a base can only increase the lipstick's staying power so it never hurts.

It costs $15 without tax and a little goes a long way with this lipstick because of its longevity.

Overall, I would say that MAC Morange is excellent. The color is completely unique and can last a few hours without touching up. It goes on smoothly and stays on. I would definitely purchase it again...and again and again. - Jenny

Have you tried MAC Morange yet?
